“Many believe, that for all intents and purposes, that there is no need for the predominately Black College anymore.”

In 1988, Spike Lee’s groundbreaking film, “School Daze,” explored various factions of life at a Historically Black College and/or University (HBCU). Inner turmoil between University officials, color gradation issues, social issues, and the debate of the institutions relevancy were put on display for the entire world to see. In 2014, HBCUs still face some of the same issues that were faced in 1988.

For this assignment, write a 500-800 word reflective paper with the theme: “Have We Come Far Enough?” In this paper, you may focus on, but not be limited to the following:

*Relevancy of the HBCU

*Color Gradation Issues (Hair texture, Skin Color, Class)

*Greek Letter Organizations

* Use of Homosexual Slurs/LGBTQ Students

*Connection between the University and Community

You may tie in some examples from the film to help you support your position. Make sure that you talk about similarities between the years, 1988-2014. You may go by the Writing Center for assistance. Please put forth your best effort.
