Donald barthelme and john barth
original threads MUST be 8-10 complete sentences
nd use AT LEAST two of the terms from the “Fictional Device” and/or “Elements of Fiction” lists in your original thread
Donald Barthelme and John Barth. They are both more modern writers (they’re postmodern writers, actually)than Woolf and Hurston, later 20th century, but they are no walk in the park–a walk in a carnival funhouse maybe… You’ll be reading Donald Barthelme, the father (or the drunk, crazy uncle at the family reunion that everyone avoids) of the postmodern American short story form. You’ll be reading all of the stories in the Barthelme folder You’ll also be reading John Barth’s “Lost in the Funhouse.”
also look for the themes that you would in any literature: life, death, love, relationships, religion, conformity, institutional thinking, war, reality, illusion, youth, adulthood, etc.
