  • In other courses, you have studied the “positive” school of criminology. The positive philosophy states that criminals commit crimes as a result of factors out of their control, such as addiction, unemployment, a bad upbringing, etc. Can “positive” factors also be applied to incidents of police misconduct? Explain your reasoning.
  • Do you think the police selection and employment process requires changes? How would a more culturally dynamic workforce be beneficial to police work?
  • The Rodney King case demonstrated the concept of dual sovereignty. Is dual sovereignty an effective way for government to correct a mistake when a jury gets it wrong, or does it seem like a violation of double jeopardy? Explain your reasoning.
